Watch and Brand News IWC Tribute to Pallweber: Pricing and Technical Details SIHH 2018

Before SIHH started this week, we already had the details on the first of the Pallweber tribute pieces, the IW5050-02 with its rose gold case and white lacquered dial. In addition to this pre-release, there are three additional models joining the tribute collection. There are three wristwatches and one pocket watch in this collection.

Tribute to Pallweber

The historic Pallweber pocket watches showed the hours and minutes in large numerals on rotating discs. These pocket watches dated back to 1884 and this style display was a revolutionary development for its time. The pocket watches were only available for a few years. To celebrate the 150th anniversary of IWC, the Pallweber is back with reference 5050 and the 5051 re-edition of the pocketwatch.

IWC Pallweber “150 Years” Reference 5050

These new models are not only a reference to the design of the Pallweber but is also a tribute to F.A. Jones, the American watchmaker who founded IWC. These watches are powered by the IWC 94200 calibre, where the watchmakers developed a new solution for the sophisticated digital display. Today, there is a single-minute disc supplied by a separate wheel train and barrel instead of toothed cogs. There is a special release mechanism establishing a connection to unlock and lock the main wheel every 60 seconds to advance the wheel.

Just like the historic pocket watches, these display discs are connected by a mechanical linkage with Maltese cross drive, allowing them to be moved forwards or backwards using the crown.
