Watches To Be Excited About
Only Watch 2015, a biennial auction of one of a kind timepieces to raise money for research on Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. These watches are part of 43 unique pieces that will be auctioned off on November 7, 2015 in Geneva. Only Watch has a unique concept relating to the watches they auction; they must be the first. This means they can be the first of a limited edition, a unique prototype or even a unique edition of an existing watch. If it is based off of an existing watch, it would need several modifications such as a new dial, case material or a change in design. Lucky for us, some of the 43 pieces have begun to be announced!
FP Journe Tourbillon Souverain Bleu
For the first time, FP Journe will be participating in the Only Watch 2015 auction. This Tourbillon Souverain Blue is based on the Chronometre Bleu. The watch case is tantalum, which is resistant to most acids and corrosion making it a very strong case. It’s blue chrome dial is very reflective and pairs with the 18k rose gold movement seen in the tourbillon. The in-house movement is also fitted with a remontoire, which is used to provide a constant force to the escapement.
Patek Philippe 5016A-010
The full name is the Patek Phlippe ref. 5016A-010 Minute Repeater Tourbillon Perpetual Calendar. This one of a kind watch is based on a 5016 and will be combining a minute repeater, toubillon and perpetual calendar all within a stainless steel case and an enamel dial. The original Patek Philippe 5016 has long been one of the most complicated watches produced by Patek Phlippe. It was removed from the collection in 2011 and was replaced by the reference 5027. The 5016 is a very rare watch, only 200-300 are believed to have been produced over it’s 18 year run and is found in white, yellow or rose gold with varying dial colors. The unique 5016A-010 for the auction will feature a blue, enamel, dial, not found on the original reference number. It also has asymmetrical day and month windows, moon phase and small seconds in a sub dial at 6 o’clock and the date display with retrograde hand in the center.
Tudor Black Bay
The Heritage Black Bay One, reference 7923/001, is a unique reference specifically designed for Only Watch 2015. This is also the first year the Tudor is participating with a newly designed watch. The watch is modeled on the Submariner ref 7923 from 1954. This new model with gilt dial and pencil hands also features a special bezel, inspired by the original Black Bay. Much of the watch is similar to the original design but an added touch is the red text at 6 o’clock reading “200m=660ft.” The 41mm case with domed sapphire crystal will be available with multiple strap options, including a steel bracelet with retro inspiration.
This is just a taste of the 43 unique watches that will be found at the Only Watch charity auction on November 7, 2015. Funds raised by these exquisite timepieces will benefit Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy research. Stay up to date with all the watches as they get released at PhillipsWatches.com.
