Match Overview

Serena celebrating at wimbledonThe match, which took just over an hour to finish, started with Venus winning the coin toss and serving.  Serena led the entire first set, powerfully striking the ball across the net.  While Serena plays mainly right handed, she does an impressive two-handed backhand assisted by her Royal Oak, which helped her score some points.  Serena won the first set 6-4.  The second set mirrored the first set in all but one instance where Venus was able to pull ahead of Serena with 3-2 lead only lasting a few minutes.  Serena earned a third point with a strong backhand winner, allowing for her to break ahead.  Serena went on to beat her older sister in the second match 6-3, and is advancing to the quarterfinals.

This match added to the list of winning events for Audemars Piguet and for US athletes in the last 24-hours.  Serena advances on to join two other American women in the Quarterfinals, Madison Keys and CoCo Vandeweghe, for the first time since 2004.  Audemars Piguet Ambassador Stan Wawrinka takes on David Goffin in the next match.  Let’s hope Stan is wearing his lucky Royal Oak also!
