Watch and Brand News Serena and Venus Williams At Wimbledon

This morning, for the 25th time, the Williams sisters faced off.   Of the last 25 matches they played in, Venus has won 11 of them.  They have played against eachother in eight Grand Slam finals, with Serena winning six of them.  This time, they played for the Wimbledon quarterfinal.  As a 5-time champion at Wimbledon, Serena was favored to win.  And this time she was wearing her lucky Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Offshore.  Serena has won the last three majors, and a 24-match winning streak at the Slams.  Her sister, Venus, although ranked 16th, beat Serena last year in Montreal.

Match Overview

Serena celebrating at wimbledonThe match, which took just over an hour to finish, started with Venus winning the coin toss and serving.  Serena led the entire first set, powerfully striking the ball across the net.  While Serena plays mainly right handed, she does an impressive two-handed backhand assisted by her Royal Oak, which helped her score some points.  Serena won the first set 6-4.  The second set mirrored the first set in all but one instance where Venus was able to pull ahead of Serena with 3-2 lead only lasting a few minutes.  Serena earned a third point with a strong backhand winner, allowing for her to break ahead.  Serena went on to beat her older sister in the second match 6-3, and is advancing to the quarterfinals.

This match added to the list of winning events for Audemars Piguet and for US athletes in the last 24-hours.  Serena advances on to join two other American women in the Quarterfinals, Madison Keys and CoCo Vandeweghe, for the first time since 2004.  Audemars Piguet Ambassador Stan Wawrinka takes on David Goffin in the next match.  Let’s hope Stan is wearing his lucky Royal Oak also!
