Watch and Brand News Vacheron Constantin FIFTYSIX New Collection: Pricing and Technical Details SIHH 2018

New for SIHH 2018 is the Vacheron Constantin FIFTYSIX collection. This entirely new model line is a retro-contemporary style suitable for any circumstance. It is the modern interpretation of the iconic 6073, from 1956 and is inspired by the Maltese cross. These new watches feature self winding movements and the new pink gold openworked oscillating weight with the Maltese cross emblem.

FIFTYSIX Collection Inspiration: 1950s

After 263 years, Geneva’s oldest watch manufacture continues to surprise and releases a new chapter in history with the FIFTYSIX collection. The original reference 6073, which served as a reference for this new collection, expresses the creativity of the Manufacture during the 1950s. There is a classicism of the dial and a bold design of the case.

The Maltese Cross can be seen in the design of these watches, with the lugs in particularly resembling the branches of the cross. The watch also features a Box-Type crystal, bridging the past and present watchmaking. Historically made from Plexiglas or mineral glass, this box-type crystal rises well above the bezel and is now made in sapphire (making it far more scratch resistant).

Dial & Movement

Paying tribute again to the 6073, this new collection features a self-winding movement with a new calibre for the three-hand variation. Through the exhibition caseback you can admire the movement with Cotes de Geneve finishing. The openworked rotor features the Maltese Cross again, a signature in the FIFTYSIX models.

Admiring the front of the dial is a distingushing characteristic, the sector-type dial. The chapter ring is punctuated by alternating Arabic numerals and baton hour markers. The dial itself features two subtle tones allowing for the light to play across the dial. Unlike the 1956 predecessor, the case itself has adopted a crown recessed into it rather than the more classic approach.
