Wake Up With Watches and host Tim Mosso as the Watchbox Reviews channel presents a curated feast of Rolex, Omega, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, and more luxury watch brands for your viewing and shopping pleasure. Rolex always features on this show, and today, we’re playing to the crowd with two fan favorites: the Rolex “Batman,” and the Rolex Daytona steel-ceramic. The GMT-Master II 116710BLNR, known as the “Dark Knight” or “Batman” by collectors, was well-received at its Baselworld 2013 launch, but no one – Rolex included – could have imagined the phenomenon this black-and-blue pilot’s watch would become almost a decade later. In contrast, the “ceramic bezel” 2016 Rolex Daytona was a sensation from the moment the first example was introduced in the halls of Basel. For those without a Rolex budget, Rolex quality remains within reach thanks to a 41mm Tudor Black Bay “Steel” dive watch on a NATO-inspired textile strap. This Tudor diver sports a manufacture caliber MT5612 automatic movement with COSC Swiss chronometer certification, a 70-hour power reserve, a silicon hairspring, and the same balance bridge/free-sprung refinements as the Rolex family of mechanical movements. 200-meter water resistance and a unidirectional dive bezel ensure utility and toughness for recreational divers. Omega watches are the technical and qualitative equal – or even superior – of Rolex watches, but Omega is a better preowned buy than the five-pointed crown from Geneva. Today’s show includes the latest specification Omega Seamaster Diver 300M dive watch in two-tone steel and yellow gold with a blue ceramic dial. This episode’s Speedmaster Moonwatch features the desirable caliber Lemania-based caliber 1863 with a higher degree of finish than the 1861 and a special sapphire display caseback through which to appreciate the improvements. Patek Philippe watches claim an uncharacteristically dominant role in today’s show thanks to a Nautilus Moon Phase, a 5396G annual calendar, a 3970P perpetual calendar chronograph, and a 5170R chronograph. In particular, the sector dial 5396G and the 36.2mm perpetual calendar chronograph impress with timeless style and unbeatable discretion on the wrist. Vacheron Constantin boasts a single distinguished appearance on the show thanks to the Historiques Triple Calendar 1942. This 40mm stainless steel day-date-month complication includes a case and lugs modeled after the vintage 1942 Vacheron Constantin reference 4240. Few watches boast the balance of this durable and charismatic Geneva Hallmark complete calendar.
