Yet another brand has announced adding a sort of smartwatch accessory to their watch collections. This time that brand is IWC Schaffhausen. What they are doing differently, lines up with their long tradition of engineering innovation. This new accessory: The IWC Connect.
What is the Connect?
Unlike many other brands, this smart feature is going to be integrated into the straps of the watches rather than in the actual movement and design. While there has not been much information released about this new feature, we do know a few points. The small device will allow wearers control over certain devices and provide activity tracking. The theory behind this innovation is to allow IWC owners the ability to control their “connected environment” directly from the wrist, meaning fewer smart devices needed. IWC will also be able to maintain their integrity of their handcrafted mechanical timepieces. The Connect is to be integrated into the straps of sports watches such as the Big Pilot’s Watches.
After being inspired by customers and brand ambassadors wearing connected devices alongside IWC watches, they decided to develop their own complementary solution. Working with a like-minded digital technology company, they were able to create an intelligent design which integrates with their products. IWC Schaffhausen CEO, Georges Kern, wants wearers to know they they will not be touching the overall design of their mechanical watches.
